My dad was an avid golfer, and when the concept of a new golfcourse was introduced in town, he was in there ASAP and got a certificate of stock to prove it.

Point O’ Woods was and is a great golf course. Can you click here?

When I was little, I remember distinctly that the road/drive into the pro shop and clubhouse encircled a large tree. The following year the tree was gone.

I imagine that someone got really drunked up and ran into it. Maybe lots of pep

Mr. President, how many more must be injured before we remove that threatful tree?

Oooo Eeee; kill that tree.   [refrain]

Here is a pic of the stock certificate...

Fred Upton is one of the sons of Fred Upton Sr, and the father to Sen. Fred Upton, from St. Joe, where Whirlpool Corporation is located. Whirlpool is buying Maytag.

Speaking of tagging, when I was in NYC this summer I meant to get in contact with John Upton, who is Fred’s cousin. John works for some lawfirm in NYC which is the same NYC that I was in to visit Caitlin during the 2005 summer. John, forgive me! Email me.

Jack Dean owned Dean’s Dairy, and was banished because one of his investments, a concrete company, went bust. My dad almost invested in that. It was a real big deal.

To the right - red shirt, Molly, plaid, Dinty, White shorts Colleen, all Ryans, all dead. The Ryans to the left are still alive. THR took the picture so he’s not in it.

New York is where the World Trade Center buildings were that had planes run into them.

Did you know that in Michigan there are sure a bunch of rich people around Grand Rapids. A partial listing of them would have to include:

  • Fred Meijer, of Meijers stores.
  • The DeVos family, 1/2 of Amway
  • The Van Andel family, the other 1/2 of Amway

The DeVos family was reported earlier this year to have been the number 1 and 2 financial contributor to the National Republican Party. Go figure. Dick DeVos, son of Rich DeVos, is going to run for governor against Jennifer Granholm, the incumbent.

My dad was married before he married my mom. He had a daughter, Sally, of whom I had heard nothing until she was in college and my mom asked her to summer with us in Michigan from Alabama. According to Sally, her mom met my mom when her mom walked in on my dad and my mom in her mom’s bed when my mom was babysitting for Sally, or some such... True? Who knows - he never spoke of his family. I never saw a photo of his mom, his dad, his brother, his sister, his house, his college friends, or any of the sort. He was friends with Bob McCloskey, who was the father to Laura, John and Donald nee Diedre, and their mom Helen (named after my grandmother). Bob died of a heart attack as a Poli. Sci prof at Harvard, where Diedre fenced as a young co-ed.

Diedre keeps in touch with Phil, who is I guess closest to Diedre and Jen and Paul. Sally calls me. I never call anyone anymore except immediate family, close friends, and a handyman when work needs to be done around the house. Did I mention I took woodshop in Jr. High from an old German guy we called “KrumpleNuts” although that wasn’t his real name. Mr. Tower taught choir and he hated me. He tried to throw me over a bunch of chairs on my last day of Junior High. Is that lame, or what? Yes, it is.

This page is sort of set up by accident, ignorance and default, so that the most current information is at the bottom of the page. I guess if you really wanted to you could just go to the bottom of the page and read up from there.

Anyhow, if I were real industrious I would just redo this page into the current method I use and find much easier to work with, where everything is in one single text box where I can put pictures or sounds or external links. Think of it more as one large word document versus many short text post-it notes posted on your monitor.

Anyhow, and back to the topic at hand, my dad’s parents were dead before I was born, so I am guessing they died fairly young, although when and under what circumstances was never brought up. I am guessing that they used up most of their money, which my dad described as rather abundant during his childhood. I don’t know if those funds funded my uncle Dinty’s education. From what I can gather, he went to college forever, well into the 50s, and by the time I was in high school and visited him he was with the SEC as a securities fraud trial lawyer. He was probably good at it.

My dad’s sister I met once seemingly by accident and without really even really understanding that they were brother and sister since I had never even heard anyone ever mention her and suddenly I find out my dad has a sister. I am figuring he has had this sister for quite a bit of time because I think she is older, but I really don’t know. I had by then met my cousin Charlie, who had given tickets for a
