In 2000, I attended a conference of Nurse Practitioners who were invited to visit Cuba through a program called “People to People Embassadors” that was set up by Dwight Eisenhower after World War II. Under this program we were able to visit health care facilities, meet health care faculties, and see Castro’s Cuba’s health care system. That system is one of the best in the world.
